Peace Leaf Tea
Although it's common for someone to ask a friend to "grab a cup of coffee", Christi Smallidge would never use the term "grab a cup of tea". As founder and sole owner of Peace Leaf Tea, the single mom of two daughters says that drinking tea is about "balance and harmony". She believes that a cup of tea is to be savored not chugged. Christi, who recently told me she "loves everything about tea...its history, process, and product...how it delights all the senses..." founded her central Indiana based company in 2007. The self-taught entrepreneur says that the company "just took off" and is now her full time endeavor.
After trying some of Peace Leaf Teas' products, it was easy for me to see why Christi has been so successful. The products are wonderful. My favorite is the company's signature Mellow Morning Blend which is made with lavender from Willowfield Lavender Farm in Mooresville, Indiana. One sip and it's evident that Christi has a special gift for blending teas. While some herbal and floral teas often taste as if you steeped a spoonful of hay or twigs in your cup, her blends are subtle. They whisper...not shout. Christi, who will accept nothing less than the best the world has to offer for her 100% organic whole leaf teas and tea blends, devotes a substantial amount of her time sourcing teas, herbs, and flowers from around the globe. In an effort to go "as local as possible", she is currently looking for Indiana producers to grow herbs and flowers for her blends.
Peace Leaf Teas offers a wide variety of organic teas and "tea things" which may be purchased on-line through the company's website and is available at several central Indiana farmers' markets, retail outlets and tea rooms.
