Old and New Recipes

IMG_1091
There's a Girl Scout campfire song that goes "Make new friends...keep the old...One is silver...the other gold." I totally agree to that thought when it comes to recipes as well as friends.

At the start of each season, I go through my recipe files and take out my old friends--the recipes I can count on as easy to prepare and consistently delicious. But I am always creating or on the look out for new ones that will highlight the beauty of the season's bounty.

One of my favorite old fall recipe friends is the one pictured in this post--A Very Local Pumpkin Pie or Pudding. Perfect for a quick weeknight dessert but elegant enough for your Thanksgiving table, the custard can be made with a sugar pumpkin, butternut squash, or pink banana squash.

Click here for the recipe. Try using duck eggs instead of chicken eggs in this dessert. Those rich duck egg yolks really make the custard sing!
