Simpson's Farm Market: Local, Fresh, Authentic Food
Ask Darby Simpson about why he farms and settle in for a long, but incredibly interesting and thought provoking answer. As you listen to him speak you can feel the passion he and his wife, Brandy, have for raising their high quality, pastured poultry and pork. And that passion is evident in the quality of their products.
Last week Robert and I tried Simpson's Farm Market's chicken leg quarters. I marinated them overnight in some olive oil, lemon zest, and fresh thyme; then baked them for about 40 minutes in a 400 degree oven. The chicken was wonderful--moist meat, crispy golden brown skin, and so flavorful.
The Simpsons say their business has "simply exploded". Darby notes on the farm's website: "The way we approach farming is unique, we see it as a partnership between us and our patrons. What we promise to you as that patron is the following:
- Our pasture areas are 100% chemical, pesticide and herbicide free.
- All of the grains we use are GMO free and raised in Central Indiana.
- Only USDA Certified Organic vitamin and mineral supplements are used in our grain mixes.
- Our animals are treated humanely and have access to clean water, fresh air and plenty of sunshine.
- Our meats are pasture raised and moved frequently to fresh, lush grazing areas.
- Antibiotics and vaccinations are never administered.
- We only use sustainable, low energy input farming methods that actually heal the land.
- Our customers are always welcome to visit, look around and investigate our farm and ask questions.
- You will always receive the highest personal customer service.
- We strive to exceed all of the various certification standards in everything we do.
- We will never sell to you any food that we would not feed to our own children." With great product like theirs it's no surprise that Simpson's Farm Market was recently added as a vendor at both the Indianapolis City Market and the Indy Winter Market. If you can't get to either of those farmers' markets to get their products, the Simpsons also sell their poultry and pork at a number of conveniently located markets. Click here for a list of those locations. They will also arrange for an on-farm pick-up with advance notice.
