Thinking about vacation? Think Indiana agritourism!
Summer vacation is just around the corner. If you're trying to find something that the whole family can enjoy but want to stay close to home, think agritourism. Many farms, wineries, and other agricultural operations in Indiana welcome individuals and family members for fun and affordable activities.
According to Ann Schmelzer, Program Manager for Regional Development at the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, "There has been a substantial increase in the public's interest in farm related vacations and experiences where they can learn more about where their food comes from, how food is locally sourced, and go on site to experience agriculture first hand. Agritourism in Indiana is a wonderful community asset and a fantastic resource for family fun and education." Brian Blackford, Development Director for the Indiana Office of Tourism Development agrees and notes," Agritourism combines two of Indiana's largest industries. We've seen a tremendous amount of growth in that sector over the past several years and we expect it to grow substantially in the future."
The diversity of experiences that Indiana agritourism has to offer is amazing. For example, you can visit working farms such as the Apple Family Farm, wineries, and even have a full day dairy adventure at one of the largest dairies in the country. To find out more about these great summer fun opportunities, contact your local convention and visitors bureau, your chamber of commerce, or click here for a copy of the Indiana Agritourism Directory.

Indiana agritourism is not only growing but thriving. Another resource to locate agritourism operations in Indiana and all of North America is Rural Bounty or www.ruralbounty.com The website has over 500 classifications for agritourism adventures searchable by state and zip code.
Farms can register online and become a part of this important North American agritourism directory. A full page listing is provided with membership as well as a link to each individual farm website. An event database also allows people to find out special farm festivals that may be happening near them.
