Nature's Crossroads

Kit-label--copy-2Many Indiana local foodies know Art Sherwood, Jeff Evard, and Ed Devlin as producers who are committed to organic and sustainable farming. For years, they have supplied their customers with beautifully grown fruits and vegetables. Now they want to help Indiana gardeners by providing them with locally sourced seeds, soil amendments, and supplies. Their new venture, Nature's Crossroads, has been created to promote organic growing throughout the state of Indiana. Art said the company was recently founded to fill a need the three men saw in the Indiana garden supply marketplace for local products including locally produced seeds.

In addition to the gardening product line, Nature's Crossroads has an educational component where instructors provided by the company are working with school age children to teach them about about organic food production and the benefits of eating locally grown produce. The classes are part of a fund raising opportunity that Nature's Crossroads has developed through which the children can raise funds for their schools by selling organic garden kits. A successful pilot program was conducted earlier this year with Clear Creek Elementary School and plans are in the works to expand the program in 2010.

Currently you can purchase the company's first Indiana seed product--tomato seeds-- at Traders' Point Creamery and Bloomingfoods. Art says that more products are being developed for 2010. For additional information about the company, its products, or the school program, contact Art Sherwood (art@eatlifeup.com ).

So cool! I think this is awesome! I love the fact that you are educating future children about growing their food.
