Heirloom Plant Sale at Conner Prairie
A visit to the Conner Prairie Living History Museum in Fishers, Indiana lets you experience life in the 19th century American culture. It's a great place to wander about the expertly re-created villages and meet with the residents as they tell you about life before modern conveniences such as grocery stores, electric appliances, and e-mail! The gardens on the property are especially beautiful and filled with period plants.
If you want to grow a piece of Indiana history in your own garden, visit Conner Prairie on May 3-4 where you will be able to purchase heirloom plants including 18 varieties of tomatoes, herbs and perennials from their historic gardens. The Heirloom Plant Sale includes free demonstrations on making jams, preserves and marmalades, as well as instruction on how to grow a king mammoth pumpkin. You're encouraged to enter your jams, heirloom produce, and pumpkins in the Museum's Country Fair which is going to be held on September 20-21 this year.
The plant sale is held just outside of the Museum grounds and admission to that event is free. Admission to the Museum is $11.00 for Adults, $7.00 for Youth Ages 2-12, and $10.00 for Seniors Age 65+. Once inside the Museum grounds, you can visit the Gift Shop where you can purchase heirloom seeds including a variety of beans, flowers, and melons.
The sale will run from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on May 3 and 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on May 4.
