Cooking with Local Foods Class Offered by Food and Growers Association of Laughery Valley
If you'd like to learn about cooking with fresh, local foods, head to the Oldenburg Franciscan Center on Wednesday, September 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a cooking demonstration with recipes that are just in time for the cooler weather ahead.
Kathy Cooley, R.D. and Patty Redding from Langeland Farms, Inc. and Jessica Greiwe from The Green at Wahill Farms will discuss cooking kale (one of my all time favorite greens), create a comfort food dish made with Langeland Farm roast beef, cheese, and veggies cooked in a bread bowl, make homemade sauerkraut (my husband and I made ours earlier this year and I can tell you that homemade kraut is sensational),cook up a tri-color slaw, vegetable soup with "magic mineral" broth, and roast some sweet potatoes. There will also be a chicken dish made with pasture raised chicken. Tastings of all dishes will be provided to class participants.
The event is sponsored by the Food and Growers Association(FGA)of Laughery Valley, Margaret Mary Hospital, and the Oldenburg Franciscan Center.
The class is free to FGA members and $10.00 for non-members (this will also get you a one year membership to FGA). For more information or to register call 812-933-6437.
